Used medical equipment
Danish company Agito Medical specialises in the buying and selling of valuable used medical equipment. This equipment is sold by parties such as hospitals in the Nordic region, and buyers can be found mainly in Asia, America and Eastern Europe.
Anders Børsen Nielsen at Agito is responsible for the Swedish market: – We buy all kinds of used medical equipment from a number of Swedish hospitals, equipment that would otherwise have been thrown out. Now those Swedish hospitals can get money for their old machines and we can offer relatively modern equipment to hospitals and clinics in less developed countries.
Better to work with specialists Used equipment has been transported from the Nordic region with MTAB’s help. Anders Børsen Nielsen is of the opinion that traditional transport companies are simply unable to handle used medical equipment. They are unable to handle these fragile machines as part of their regular operations, and instead they have to book the services of specialist companies, which puts the price up. As a result, it is better to work directly with the specialist companies. Technically complex equipment Moreover, we demand flexibility and experience in handling complex technical equipment. They have to be at the right place in the hospital at the right time and be able to resolve problems as they occur. They have to know that dialysis machines must not be stored in cold conditions, otherwise they are destroyed. Agito’s operations are well known in the Swedish care sector, and the company has done deals with most Swedish hospitals. And Anders is observing greater interest and awareness when he calls round and offers equipment to buyers. The various machines, including CT scanners, MRI scanners and X-ray equipment, are then distributed to end customers via a broad network of intermediaries.
Kalle Wiman and Sabahudin Sulemanovic, specially trained drivers from MTAB in Gothenburg, dismantle and transport used mammography equipment from Borås hospital. As the equipment will be used again, it is particularly important for it to be dismantled carefully and using the right steps, and that all cabling is labelled carefully. When the equipment is loaded on the truck, it is transported to Aalborg in Denmark. Agito Medical’s head office is there, along with its storage facilities and workshop, and the mammography equipment is checked there, reconditioned and transported to a new customer. – We have been working with Agito Medical for a number of years, explains Sven Wallin, Head of Sales at MTAB in Gothenburg. Most of this work involves dismantling and transporting medical equipment in Sweden. However, we have also worked for them in Finland and Norway, and our packing technology department has constructed transport packaging for long sea voyages.
